What We Offer ... What We Expect

We are a small entrepreneurial firm that offers substantial hands-on experience. If you work here you will have direct interaction with the partners and will be doing real projects that move our business forward. We will treat you like an experienced professional while giving you the assistance you need to navigate through the hedge fund world, which is probably new to you. With us, you won't get a big summer paycheck like you will at a Fortune 500 internship; however, being a performance-based business, we will reward performance with bonuses, profit sharing, and possibly equity in our firm. This will require you to be focused, hungry, self-motivating and able to help move our business forward.

To give an example of a recent project: we were considering starting an ETF but didn't know the first thing about doing so. We didn't want to drop $10k to have a lawyer tell us when there was a lot of ground work we could do ourselves just by using the internet. The associate was tasked with learning the regulatory environment in the securities industry, finding third party firms that offer start-up services, and presenting these findings to the partners. Not a lot of guidance was given because, frankly, the partners didn't know much about this area. We were, however, available at all times to help and sit in on calls when needed. The associate was totally empowered to build this business on their own, and that will sound scary to some.

The ideal result from a project like this is the associate becomes an expert in this area and can say to the partners, "Here's how you do this." Were we to move forward with his/her work, the associate would most likely receive a portion of profits generated from the success of the project.

Summer Associates

We are still looking at the possibility of starting a summer associate program. Areas where someone can make a big difference to our firm:

Legal - Perhaps you are interested in hedge fund law and want direct exposure to it. We need in-house assistance with understanding Dodd-Frank; understanding security structures (see example above), and helping with paperwork required for state registration. This position would be a total immersion experience for a pre-law or a first year law student.

Graphic Design - Brochures, web site, powerpoint presentations.

Accounting - Back office trade accounting can be as important in the hedge fund space as front office trading. At our size, we offer a position where you would essentially be working directly with the Chief of Operations and having a demonstrable impact on our business. In addition, you would learn pretty much everything there is to know about hedge funds and private investment partnerships. Our ideal candidate would have a least a year of Accounting; and some Finance classes, possibly an options/derivatives class.

In-Semester Associate

We usually have 2 to 4 in-semester associates working for us at any one time. They usually work 2 to 10 hour per week for us in areas including Marketing, Quantitative Research, and Fundamental Research. We are always looking for outstanding students who are eager to gain experience at a quantitative hedge fund firm. We like students that have excelled at something, whether academics, sports, or an avocation. We welcome resumes but regret that we cannot respond to all applicants.
